Review: Quarantine

A local t.v crew are recording a story on firefighters, and the firefighters are called to an apartment block, to help an elderly woman. The t.v crew tag along. Upon arriving, the woman in her apartmet savagely bites one of the firefighters, and he is injured badly. When they get downsatirs, and attempt to take him to hospital, the police outside will not let them pass. They are asked to stay inside, and if they attempt to leave they will be shot. They are stuck inside the building with humans in which a disease is spreading, making them crave for human flesh.

Good. Not a great entry into the US remake’s catalogue but a start. From what i’d heard, this was a shot-by-shot remake, but alot of this film wasn’t. Extra characters and dialogue was added, i presume so people wouldn’t feel like they’d seen it all before with [REC], but i was pretty bored most of the time. The one scene i knew was coming and was looking forward to was the end scene. In [REC], the last scene is one of few scenes that has ever made me shit myself, and the scene in this remake was alot different, and didn’t even have potential to be scary. While watching it was hard to see what was going on, sometimes because of the shaky camera, but most of the time because other characters were in the way. As the newest edition to foreign remakes, is better than the others, i have to ask myself, was i scared (no), was i bored (yes), and was it good (yes). Rating this film was hard, because although it was pretty boring, mainly only because i’ve seen the originlal which is similar, but i did actually find it entertaining.

The plot was great, and added characters and dialogue to the new script was adapted well, i think. There was a plot hole in the remake which was quickly shown in the original, but why the people were getting the disease, and the little boy in the attic, was never explained so that was one major plot hole, i must admit.

The acting was believable with Jennifer Carpenter giving this role her all, and my god she has a pari of lungs!. Supporting roles were also well acted which gave the film an added believable feel.

Overall “Quarantine” will definately be enjoyed by those who have not seen “[REC]“. It gave no real scares, but is entertaining. My rating is 3/5.
