Funny Finales

How I Met Your Mother: "Something Borrowed" (5/7/07) - It’s Marshall and Lily’s wedding day and Murphy’s law comes true for them. They end up getting married outside with Marshall wearing a toupee. Grade: B

How I Met Your Mother: "Something Blue" (5/14/07) - At Marshall and Lily’s reception, Ted and Robin have a secret and Barney keeps trying to guess. We finally discover that Robin is not pregnant, but that Ted and Robin have broken up but were keeping it secret so that it didn’t take away from the wedding. Another interesting turn headed into next season. And this season was a great one. Grade: A-

King of the Hill: "Hair Today, Gone Today" (5/13/07) - It turns out that Nancy still has feelings for John Redcorn after all these seasons but the stress causes her to start losing her beloved hair. Grade: B+

The Simpsons: "Stop or My Dog Will Shoot" (5/13/07) - The long-awaited Santa’s Little Helper-centric episode… SLH becomes a police dog and Bart ends up with a new pet python. Then the boy must choose between the snake and the dog. A little like Old Yeller but not really. Grade: B-

Family Guy: "It Takes a Village Idiot and I Married One" (5/13/07) - Lois defeats Adam West in the election for mayor but soon becomes corrupt. Grade: B+

American Dad: "The Magnificent Seven" (5/13/07) - Stan wants to make men out of Steve and his dorky buddies, so he takes them on a cattle drive. Also, Roger calls Hayley the prettiest woman in the house, making Francine jealous. All part of his evil plan… Grade: B

My Name is Earl: "The Trial" (5/10/07) - Joy’s trial is imminent and Earl falls for her attorney. Things are also going well at his job. But when it looks like Joy might go to jail, Earl takes the rap for her so she can be with her kids and Crabman. Earl in jail? Now that’s a cliffhanger. Grade: A

The Office: "The Job" (5/17/07) - Michael, Jim and Karen are all up for the new job in New York. Michael, of course, assumes that he’ll get it and leaves Dwight in charge. Soon, however, they discover that it’s Jan’s job they’re interviewing for and Jan loses it when she finds out. Michael takes Jan’s side and, of course, doesn’t get it. And in the last scene, Jim shows up back in Scranton and asks Pam out (we’re not sure if he broke up with Karen yet or not). Oh, and in the epilogue, the job goes to Ryan, who immediately breaks up with Kelly. Hilarious finale from start to finish. Grade: A+

Scrubs: "My Rabbit"/"My Point of No Return" (5/17/07) - Sorry, but this season finale seemed pretty hastily thrown together. NOW J.D. has feelings for Elliot again? Just as Kim is moving in with him to help raise their child of course (not that what she did with him was unforgivable or anything…). As wacky as this show can be, it’s still mostly grounded in reality, but a lot of what happened here just wasn’t believable. Many fans liked J.D. and Elliot together, but I doubt that they wanted it like this. The writers have written themselves into a corner once again this season. What saved this finale for me was the Janitor’s "Brain Trust." Classic stuff. Grade: C+

Coming up: Fox Sunday season finales, the Emmys, then see you in the fall!
