EMMY FEATURE: Best Supporting Actor/Comedy

by- TV Editors

We’re setting aside a special feature for this category because it’s such a tough call. In fact, we’re not even sure we can pick a winner.

First things first, we’ve always liked Jon Cryer. We’ve usually hated what the show Two & A Half Men have put his character through, but we like Jon Cryer. So we’re not going to go on a big tirade about how insane all Men’s nominations are and how My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, Monk, Psych, or even King of Queens deseved a nomination more than it did. That’s a different article. We’re just saying, we have nothing against Jon Cryer.

We’re also saying up front that Neil Patrick Harris has long been the only thing we’ve really liked about How I Met Your Mother. His catch phrase ’suit up’ is probably, no, definitely, the worst sitcom catch phrase of the current century, but, we’re not holding that against Harris. Harris is funny. We’d love to see him be funny on a better show. But we’re not contesting his nomination.

And then there’s Kevin Dillon. A guy playing a character named Drama is nominated in the comedy category. We love it. We also think he’s pretty darn funny. We’re not going to complain here, either.

This leaves us with the big clash of the titans- Jeremy Piven, as the decidedly R-Rated Ari on Entourage is the returning champ. Rainn Wilson, as the decidedly moronic Dwight on The Office is a first-time nominee, though many say he was robbed last year. So who do you pick? The HBO parody of a fast-track agent or the NBC parody of a dead-end office "asssistant to the regional manager." The shows are so different in tone and style and content- okay, we didn’t watch Entourage this season, but, we’ve seen it– so it seems weird that we’re even comparing these guys. So we won’t! We’ll say they’re both funny and hope there’ll be a tie!
