Damages: Tastes Like My Paralyzing Fear Of Ho-Ho’s

All right, crime fans, Saturday, Oct 20 may just be your last chance to catch up on the saga of Damages…well, no, it won’t be, because obviously, it’s online, on Itunes, among other places, and will definitely be on dvd I’d guess - but if you want it the easy way, you can watch the Damages marathon beginning at 8 AM EST in preparation for the finale on Tuesday.

There are some good reasons to watch Damages - maybe not for 12 straight hours, but  - and those three reasons are: Glenn Close, Zeljko Ivanek in the last four or five episodes with his character, and Ted Danson. There’s also the mystery of who killed bla bla bla and will the bad exec get his comeuppance and some younger actors and bla bla bla. But really, folks, this show is all about the acting of these three vets. I know- I keep saying that. But it’s true.

I don’t get why the heck the show wants to continue as a series, though (it’s chances of doing so aren’t great….) . Sure, Close’s character is cool, but, her story seems so tied up in the Frobisher case. I’m sure Patty has other tricks up her sleeve that may amuse us- but hasn’t she already gone to every extreme - I mean, people were killed on this case. She’s pulled dirty tricks, lied, cheated, broken laws- is there really any place more extreme to go? I don’t think so. So why push it? This is a series tailor-made for a short run. It’s self-contained. I don’t get the fans who want more.

One thing I have to go back on, from a previous Damages report, is that I don’t like the episode titles being lines of dialogue. I like several of then, actually, or at least they’ve been stuck in my head: And My Paralyzing Fear of Death, We Are Not Animals, Do You Regret What Wed Did, and, yeah, I guess sorta Tastes Like A Ho-Ho.

Seriously, people: Close, Ivanek, and Danson. Worth checking in for sporadic episodes as the day goes on. Maybe when your football game is at halftime or something.
