Funny Business 12-18

The Simpsons: "Husbands and Knives" (11/18/07) - Jack Black guest stars as a competing comic book store owner who apparently drives Comic Book Guy out of business. End of an era? Love the guest appearances by big names in comics as well. Also Marge opens up a "Curves"-like exercise franchise, and ends up getting rich, driving Homer to get his stomach stapled. Grade: A-
King of the Hill: "Raise the Steaks" (11/18/07) - Hank joins up with an organic food commune. Great guest star appearance by Dave "Gruber" Allen, of Freaks and Geeks and Naked Trucker fame. Grade: B+
Family Guy: "Padre de Familia" (11/18/07) - In what could easily have been an episode of American Dad, Peter becomes a super-patriot who finds out that he’s technically a Mexican immigrant. Like many episodes, it was hit and miss. The $25,000 Pyramid reference was hilarious. Grade: B
American Dad: "The 42-Year-Old Virgin" (11/18/07) - Not quite enough here for a full episode - basically The 40 Year Old Virgin with killing people. Some good moments but not the best ever. Grade: C+
How I Met Your Mother: "Slapsgiving"  (11/19/07) - At long last, Marshall pays off the slap bet with Barney, and it is oh so satisfying. Not quite best of the season but close. And the song at the end - genius. Grade: A-
"The Yips" (11/26/07) - We learn a little more about how Barney became Barney (there is always more to know), and as usual, it makes for a great episode. Grade: B+
My Name is Earl: "Midnight Bun" (11/15/07) - From "previously on Earl" to the end, quite the conclusion to this 2-parter as Joy finally has her baby. Grade: B+
30 Rock: "Somebody to Love" (11/15/07) - Jack gets into a relationship with a Democratic congresswoman, and Liz suspects her neighbor (Fred Armisen) of being a terrorist. Best episode of the season so far. Grade: A+
"Cougars" (11/29/07) - Kind of stale stuff for this show with the whole Little League/Iraq comparison. Jamie’s dating a much younger guy is better. Grade: B
The Office: "The Deposition" (11/15/07) - Sadly, folks, this is it. No more Office after this, possibly for the whole season due to the writers’ strike. At least this was a classic episode, revisiting the relationship between Jan and Michael almost from the beginning, as he has to give a deposition in her lawsuit against Dunder-Mifflin. Brilliant throughout. Hope it’s back soon! Grade: A+
Scrubs: "My Identity Crisis" (11/15/07) - The Janitor challenging J.D. to name people’s real names is a pretty good subplot in a ho-hum episode that sees Carla and Turk fighting over the kids and Dr. Cox realizing he doesn’t have much of a life outside of his family. Grade: C
