Funny Business For The New Year
The Simpsons: "Eternal Sunshine of the Simpson Mind" (12/16/07) - Homer arrives at his house to find it empty and can’t remember the events of the previous day. Definitely one of the season’s best episodes. Grade: A-
King of the Hill: "The Minh Who Knew Too Much" (12/9/07) - Minh joins Dale’s gun club in order to help her family get into a prestigious country club. It’s been too long since a Kahn/Minh-centric episode. Grade: B+
Family Guy: "McStroke" (1/13/08) - Peter grows a moustache, then loses it, and binge-eats burgers in his depression, leading to a stroke. Love the Monkees reference towards the end. Grade: B-
American Dad: "Frannie 911" (1/6/08) - Roger thinks that Stan doesn’t care about him, so he gets Francine to pretend to kidnap him. Meanwhile, Steve wants to be a backup dancer and Hayley and Klaus try to one-up each other with bets. I loved how all the storylines were interwoven in this one. Grade: B
My Name is Earl: "Bad Earl" (1/10/08) - Earl is a free man, and finds out what happened to Ralph after he broke out of prison. At the same time, Earl loses his faith in karma, and goes back to his old ways, even out-conning Ralph. It all leads up to a most unexpected (but very good) cliffhanger, coming full circle as the final episode before the strike. Can’t wait to see where things go next. Grade: B+
30 Rock: "Episode 210" (1/10/08) - Jack and Cici try to make their relationship work despite the distance between New York and Washington, while Liz has to step in with negotiations with a German company. Also, Kenneth tries caffeine for the first time. It all ends with "Midnight Train to Georgia," and that’s it, no more episodes until the strike ends. As the awards pile up, I continue to miss this show more and more. Grade: A
