Finale Preview: The Office

As we head into the season finale of The Office, here’ s a little catch-up rundown for anyone who hasn’t tuned in since the strike…..

Michael: After breaking up with Jane in the first post-strike episode of the season (or just following it…) Michael has been on the prowl, enlisting - or insisting on - his subordinates giving him the names and numbers of eligible women. He holds out for someone who isn’t nice but also “Crawfordish” - as in Cindy Crawford. He went to a NYC club and ended up crashing at Ryan’s place - with Dwight. He almost got kicked out of career day where his booth was the worst. And he felt the loss when his ideal woman - a chai model in a catalog- turned out to be dead. Michael is having a hard time this half-season….yeah, we know ‘that’s what she said…”

Jim: Having settled the Pam question by telling her point blank he plans to propose, Jim is now in the throes (internal rhyme) of trying to be a good - or at least employed - salesman, ostensibly because he feels a desire to be successful as he starts his future. As he pranks Pam with fake proposals, Jim is secretly working his butt off to keep Ryan at bay. An official warning was given, oooh, ahhh…and notably, Jim did not tell Pam.

Pam: Having settled the Jim question, Pam continues to pursue her non-Dunder Mifflin related career interests. In last week’s episode, she was told Phillie and NYC are the main places to go for the art work she wants to do. It looks like Pam and Jim need a sit-down regarding their futures. You think?

Dwight: Dwight continues to hold ill-will toward Andy, who continues to date Angela. Dwight tried to get in on couple’s night, bring his sixty year old babysitter (“It’s purely carnal”) but his power-hunger has thankfully returned. He wanted full run of the place to get rid of an insubordinate Stanely and was trying to keep everyone in the office while the boss was out. He was successful in neither attempt. Angela, however, did abide by Dwight’s “stay at work” command. The two were in the office alone, in fact..hm…wonder what we didn’t see there…

Ryan: Once just a temp, Ryan has spent most of the season being a , well, %$@# bag, to the people at the ol Scranton branch - in what‘s really been one of the funniest character switches of the season. However, his cockiness has come to be ill-founded as his brainchild, DM Infinity, tanked and his fast living seems to have landed him with a potential coke problem. Whoops. This hasn’t stopped him from cracking the whip with both Jim and Michael. How long can he stay at the top…or, with all his failures, is he due for an inevitable promotion?

Angela: DM’s most persnickety account seems to have moved on from Dwight to Andy, and by moved-on we mean she is now rude and snippy to Andy instead of Dwight. One wonders though, if Andy is quite up to Angela’s standards or if she carries a secret torch for her rule-keeping, cat-euthanizing ex.

Andy: The no-longer new guy, Andy, has enjoyed official couple status with Angela, but has suffered some other blows. Dwight suckered him into a car-flipping scheme and he embarrassed himself on the golf course. However, he did have a good win, also, when he and Kevin got their parking spaces back from one of the other building tenants in a “meeting of the five families” that was pretty funny.

Jan: In the half-season premiere, we saw Jan was working on her own candle business and doing pretty badly. We’re pretty sure she’ll be back for the finale.

Kelly - Though she’s still dating Darryl, Kelly has gotten in a few good smacks at ex Ryan, including faking she’s pregnant - briefly- and offering the question “How dare you?” when Ryan asked if there were any questions about his website….

Toby: Oh, poor Toby. His love for Pam seems to be pushing him over the brink. He’s gone from circulating a memo about PDA to outright sabotaging Jim by complaining about job performance (it was implied) to Ryan. And then there was the knee-touching episode wherein his feelings spilled forth a little too obviously and led him to declare he was leaving for Costa Rica and would jog home. He then scaled a fence and, well…things arent looking good for Toby long-term at Dunder Mifflin.

Stanley- There was a big Stanley episode the other week where he finaly blew his fuse regarding Michael being an idiot. Michael then blew his own fuse. And then when all the fuse-blowing was done, they agreed to disagree and to be somewhat professional in their interactions…well, Stanley at least; professional and Michael, that’d be pushing it.

Phyllis - She hasn’t had too much to do of late

Oscar- Neither has he, though he does seem to be vying with Jim for “sane guy” of the office. And their views don’t always mesh. He also through down with some Spanish in a recent episode.

Kevin - Big news for the big guy: Stacey, his oft-mentioned fiancee dumped him; he revealed a love for the librarian look when Pam wore her glasses one day; he regained some post-dumping pride when he

Meredith- Outside of the whole getting hit by Michael’s car this fall thing, Meredith hasn’t had too much too do. Though, she almost did as Michael’s line revealed “If I slept with Meredith do you think she’d tell anyone?”

The one houre season finale of The Office airs Thursday June 14th at 9PM
